What are the advantages of bearing phosphating treatment?

The main advantages of bearing phosphating treatment include enhancing rust resistance, improving lubricity, enhancing wear resistance, improving coating adhesion and reducing friction coefficient. This process forms a dense phosphate conversion film on the surface of the bearing, providing multiple layers of protection for it.

1. Enhance rust prevention performance

The phosphating film, as a non-metallic barrier layer, can effectively prevent the contact between the metal substrate and corrosive media such as water and oxygen, and inhibit electrochemical corrosion reactions. Especially in humid or environments containing corrosive substances, it can significantly delay the oxidation and rusting process of bearings.

2. Enhance surface lubricity

The phosphating film has a porous structure, which can adsorb and store lubricating oil or anti-rust oil. During the operation of the bearing, it continuously releases the oil to form a stable oil film, reducing direct friction between metals and preventing the occurrence of "sticking" phenomenon.

3. Improve wear resistance and fatigue resistance

Although the phosphating layer is thin (typically 2–15 μm), it has a high hardness, which can reach 2–3 times that of ordinary bearing steel. It can effectively disperse contact stress and resist abrasive wear and fretting wear, thereby extending the service life of the bearing.

4. Enhance coating adhesion

When the bearing needs subsequent coating, the porous structure of the phosphating film provides a good anchoring foundation for the penetration of the coating, making the paint or organic coating bond more firmly and preventing peeling. The overall corrosion resistance can be increased by more than twice.

5. Reduce assembly friction coefficient

Phosphating treatment can reduce the friction coefficient of the bearing surface by approximately 30%, which is beneficial for assembly and adjustment operations, especially suitable for scenarios involving frequent disassembly or precise assembly.

6. Environmental protection and cost advantages

Compared with electroplating processes, phosphating treatment does not pose the risk of hydrogen embrittlement, has a minimal impact on mechanical properties, and has a mature process with low costs. Modern environmentally friendly phosphating solutions have also achieved nickel-free and nitrate-free formulations, better aligning with the green manufacturing trend.
